Taiwan health authorities promote preventive care and fitness technology

Health authorities in Taiwan are promoting preventive healthcare through systematic screening and technological assessments to combat metabolic syndrome and chronic diseases.

The Taichung City Health Bureau has introduced a three-step approach to health management: regular check-ups, risk assessment, and continuous management. Citizens aged 30 and above can access free preventive health services based on their age group. To help interpret results, the bureau recommends using the National Health Administration’s ‘Science Disease Calculation Hall’ platform, which uses health data to estimate the 10-year risk of developing conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease.

In Taipei, the City Sports Department is launching a series of ‘Fitness Technology Testing’ services from September to October. These mobile services will be available at major sporting events, including the Taipei City Sports Games for citizens with disabilities, the 2026 Taipei MIZUNO International Half Marathon, and the Taipei Senior Citizens Sports Games. The program utilizes smart equipment to measure body composition, muscle strength, and balance, allowing citizens to manage their health through objective data and tailor their exercise routines to avoid injury.
