Taiwan health authorities warn of disease risks after heavy rain

Health authorities in Taiwan, including the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control and the Pingtung County Government, have issued warnings regarding infectious disease risks following heavy rainfall caused by tropical depressions and southwest winds.

Officials advise citizens cleaning up mud and floodwater to follow three prevention steps: wearing full protective gear (gloves, masks, and boots), maintaining food and water hygiene, and eliminating mosquito breeding sites. Specific risks include leptospirosis, anthrax, intestinal infections, and dengue fever.

To prevent infection, authorities recommend disinfecting homes with diluted bleach, boiling drinking water, and avoiding food that has been submerged or thawed for too long. Residents are urged to inspect containers for standing water to prevent mosquito larvae growth and to seek medical attention immediately if symptoms such as fever, headache, or muscle pain occur.
