Taiwan health officials promote metabolic prevention and breast cancer care

Health officials in Taiwan are emphasizing preventive measures against metabolic syndrome and addressing the trend of younger patients facing breast cancer diagnoses.

The Taichung City Health Bureau recommends three key principles to reduce the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular issues: maintaining a balanced diet (low sugar, low salt, high fiber), engaging in regular exercise (at least 150 minutes per week), and monitoring health metrics such as waist circumference and blood pressure. To avoid ‘white coat hypertension,’ officials suggest the ‘722 rule’: measuring blood pressure at home twice daily for seven consecutive days.

Separately, medical professionals at Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital are noting a trend of breast cancer appearing in younger women, including those in their 20s and 30s. Factors such as lifestyle, obesity, and hormonal influences are cited as potential contributors. To preserve quality of life and body image, doctors are utilizing minimally invasive Da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery combined with immediate reconstruction. For patients concerned about future fertility, medical teams are also offering consultations regarding egg freezing prior to chemotherapy or hormone therapy.
