Taiwan hosts 2026 International Human Rights and World Ethnic Film Festivals

The 2026 Taiwan International Human Rights Film Festival opened on September 12 at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Under the theme ‘Choose the World’, the festival features 16 films, including the Asian premiere of the digitally restored version of Wan Jen’s 1998 film ‘Super Citizens’. The event aims to foster international dialogue on human rights, with participation from curators of major European human rights film festivals.

Simultaneously, the 2026 World Ethnic Film Festival is being held, featuring the film ‘Take a Piece of Scenery with You’. During a post-screening discussion, veteran actor and director Peng Chia-chia discussed the film’s impact on raising awareness for rare diseases and his personal financial losses during its production. The film, which tells the story of a man caring for his wife with cerebellar ataxia, was featured in the festival’s ‘Perfect Farewell’ segment.
