Taiwan hosts indigenous cultural festivals in Taitung and Pingtung

Cultural celebrations are expanding across Taiwan's southern regions, focusing on indigenous traditions and community engagement. In Taitung, the “2026 Art Comes to My Home” program held its first offshore event on Green Island. Hosted in a local courtyard, the event aimed to promote cultural equity by bringing arts and storytelling directly to island residents through music and shared local cuisine.

In Pingtung, the 19th annual “Austronesian Wedding – Connection to Dawu Mountain” series is set to begin. The highlight of the festival will be a traditional Paiwan noble wedding held on October 3 in Sandimen. The ceremony will recreate historical rites, including traditional messengers, bridal sedan chairs, and communal dances, to preserve and showcase the cultural heritage of the Paiwan and Rukai peoples.
