Taiwan hosts major road races and expands regional tourism initiatives

Various athletic and tourism activities are taking place across Taiwan. In Taipei, the 2026 Panasonic Taipei City Road Race saw over 12,000 runners compete in heavy rain, with Feng Cheng-hao and Chu Ying-ying winning the men's and women's 12.5km categories respectively. Additionally, registration for the 2026 Taipei Marathon has reached a record high, with over 79,000 applicants vying for 28,000 spots, including 4,488 international runners from 53 countries.

In terms of outdoor recreation, the Taipei City Government is promoting the 'Taipei Grand Trail' sixth stage, an 11km route through Nankang and Xinyi districts offering views of the Taipei Basin. In Taitung, the local government has launched a new two-day pass for the Taiwan Good Tour Luye Valley Line to encourage green tourism and extended stays by connecting popular areas like Zhiben and Chishang.

Meanwhile, Pingtung County is expanding its international tourism reach by hosting a pop-up event in Seoul's Hongdae district. Featuring the 3-meter-tall mascot 'A-He', the event aims to attract young South Korean travelers to Pingtung through interactive tasks and local food tastings.
