Taiwan housing market steadies as investors shift stock gains into homes
A recent survey by Yongqing Real Estate found that 41% of Taiwanese stock investors are considering moving profits into home purchases, with the highest intent in Hsinchu County (49%). About half of respondents prefer smaller apartments, while 40% still favor larger three‑bedroom units.
Meanwhile, data from real‑estate agencies show Taiwan’s existing‑home market rebounded in the second quarter, with a 5% year‑on‑year rise in transaction volume and price indices stabilising across the six major cities and Hsinchu. The recovery is attributed to solid economic growth, strong exports, and a wealth effect from a high‑performing stock market. In contrast, the pre‑sale market remains weak, recording an 80% drop in transactions year‑on‑year, with only 3,348 sales in June versus 16,870 a year earlier. Analysts cite high prices, limited discounts, and tighter credit conditions as factors dampening buyer interest.
