Taiwan-India tea collaboration brings Taiwanese‑style oolong to New Delhi
A team of 14 from National Chung Hsing University travelled to India, collecting tea buds in Shillong and using Taiwanese equipment and techniques to produce oolong tea with a Taiwanese flavor profile. The tea was showcased at a cultural exchange event in New Delhi, where tea artist Wu Si‑wei demonstrated the brewing process and explained the differences between Taiwanese and Indian tea traditions.
Department head Chen Jiande said the project aims to combine Indian raw material with Taiwanese technology to benefit both tea industries and promote Taiwan’s tea culture abroad. Indian tea enthusiast Sanjay Kapur praised the resulting brew for its smoothness and floral aroma, noting the contrast with typical Assam tea. Taiwan’s representative in India, Chen Mu‑min, highlighted the artistic aspect of tea making and expressed hopes to expand the collaboration across India.
