Taiwan-India trade surges 60% to reach USD 12.9 billion

Bilateral trade between India and Taiwan has experienced a significant surge, rising 60 percent in the first eight months of 2026 compared to the same period last year. Total trade reached USD 12.9 billion, already surpassing the full-year record of USD 12.5 billion set in 2025.

Ambassador Dr. Mumin Chen of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center noted that nearly 400 Taiwanese companies are currently operating in India, with cumulative investments approaching USD 7.5 billion and supporting over 200,000 jobs. These enterprises specialize in semiconductors, electronics manufacturing, precision machinery, and industrial automation.

On a broader scale, Taiwan's total exports have achieved 35 consecutive months of growth. In September, shipments reached USD 87.22 billion, a year-on-year increase of over 60 percent. This expansion is largely driven by global investment in artificial intelligence and high-quality technological components, with the tech sector accounting for nearly 80 percent of total export volume in the first nine months of the year.
