Taiwan initiatives target aging population through housing and health programs

Authorities in Taiwan are launching new initiatives to support an aging population. In Kinmen County, the government has announced a subsidy program for the renovation of old residential buildings. Starting November 4, 2025, applications will be accepted until February 2, 2026, for subsidies covering structural safety assessments and repairs. Eligible properties include apartments of 4 to 6 floors or houses with 6 floors or fewer that are at least 30 years old and possess legal documentation. The subsidies aim to improve living safety and quality for residents.

Separately, the Ministry of Health and Welfare is planning to expand its Health Coin incentive program to include elderly functional assessments. The goal is to encourage seniors to undergo regular testing for cognitive, physical, and nutritional health to detect early signs of decline. While the program is currently in the planning stage, officials aim to use these incentives to increase participation in assessments that cover vision, hearing, and emotional well-being.
