Taiwan Intercepts Chinese Aircraft, Vessels and Tanker in ADIZ
Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence reported that Chinese military activity intensified in late May 2026. On May 30 the ROC detected 16 sorties of PLA aircraft, eight PLAN vessels and three official ships crossing the median line and entering Taiwan’s northern, southwestern and eastern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). The armed forces monitored and responded to each incursion.
Earlier, between May 24‑26, Taiwan intercepted a People’s Liberation Army Air Force Y‑20U aerial refueling tanker escorted by J‑16 fighters conducting the first confirmed mid‑air refueling inside Taiwan’s ADIZ. The operation demonstrated China’s new capability to sustain prolonged combat air patrols near the island, raising the strategic stakes of the ongoing gray‑zone pressure campaign.
