Taiwan labor agencies expand support for disability and dementia employment

Government agencies in Taiwan are expanding support services to promote inclusive employment for persons with disabilities and individuals with dementia.

In Taichung, the Labor Affairs Bureau reported that the city's mandatory employment rate for persons with disabilities reached 151.54% in May, ranking second among the six major metropolitan areas. To maintain this, the bureau provides vocational rehabilitation through a case management model, job redesign services, and subsidies of up to 100,000 TWD for workplace adjustments. Over the past two years, the bureau has assisted 77 enterprises in developing 87 job openings and has issued over 5 million TWD in incentives for exceeding employment quotas.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Labor's Kaohsiung-Pingtung-Penghu Branch is conducting professional training for employment service personnel to better support individuals with dementia. The training focuses on improving communication skills and understanding the challenges faced by those with cognitive impairments, such as information overload or complex workflows. The ministry offers various tools, including job redesign, temporary work subsidies, and individualized training, to help individuals with dementia overcome workplace barriers and return to the workforce.
