Taiwan launches 5‑day military drills amid high tensions with China

Taiwan has begun a five‑day joint land, air and sea training exercise, part of its regular annual program but timed as cross‑strait tensions with China remain elevated. The drills aim to test combat readiness, improve coordination among the services and accelerate the transition from peace to war conditions.

Blindfolded military vehicles were observed moving through strategic areas in the north of the island, including the city of Taoyuan, drawing public and media attention. Beijing continues to consider Taiwan part of its territory and has not ruled out the use of force for reunification, while Taipei stresses the defence of the island’s current status and rejects any forced integration.
