Taiwan launches five‑day joint defence drill featuring Marine Corps

From July 13, Taiwan’s armed forces began a five‑day joint defence exercise aimed at integrating army, navy, air force and Marine Corps operations. The drill simulates enemy incursions into Taiwan’s territorial waters and emphasizes decentralized command and control, testing “distributed command” (C2) and rules of engagement.

Marine Corps units performed a mobile reinforcement, moving dozens of military trucks, field ambulances, communications vehicles and Humvees from their southern garrison to the Taipei area. The first wave arrived in the morning and set up a temporary command post for on‑site reconnaissance. Analysts noted the exercise’s focus on rapid‑response capabilities, low‑altitude air‑defence firepower and interoperability with allied forces.

The maneuver also serves to validate the troops’ ability to operate independently across separate combat zones while supporting Taiwan’s broader defensive strategy in the Taiwan Strait.
