Taiwan local governments distribute subsidies for Chongyang Festival

Local governments in Taiwan are distributing elderly subsidies to honor senior citizens during the upcoming Chongyang Festival.

In Taichung City, over 530,000 seniors are eligible for payments. Residents aged 65 to 89 will receive 2,000 TWD, those aged 90 to 94 will receive 3,000 TWD, those aged 95 to 99 will receive 5,000 TWD, and centenarians will receive 10,000 TWD. Centenarians also receive commemorative gold pieces from the Presidential Office and Ministry of Health and Welfare. To encourage social activity, the city is hosting cross-county promotional events through the end of the year.

In Luodong Township, Mayor Wu Chiu-ling is personally visiting 16 centenarians to deliver 22,000 TWD in subsidies along with traditional pig trotter noodles. Approximately 14,900 seniors in the township are eligible for benefits. While most residents aged 65 to 89 will receive funds via bank transfer, the mayor is conducting personal visits for the oldest residents to express respect for their contributions to society.
