Taiwan military concludes Han Kuang exercises with new combat models
Taiwan has concluded its Han Kuang 42 military exercises, which featured a shift toward combat-oriented models inspired by United States military doctrines. The exercises emphasized long-term resilience and included the mobilization of over 5,000 reservists through the ‘Tongxin 36’ program. Key tactical updates introduced during the drills include Rapid Decision and Synchronization Procedures (ROSP), decentralized command and engagement rules (ROE), back-briefing protocols, and Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations (EABO) to counter amphibious landings.
To simulate wartime conditions, the exercises also included measures such as intentional mobile network speed reductions to test societal resilience during communication disruptions. President Lai Ching-te participated in the drills, marking the highest level of presidential involvement in the history of the Han Kuang exercises.
Following the conclusion of the main exercises, the Taiwan Army conducted specialized training involving First Person View (FPV) attack drones. Units from the artillery, marine corps, and military police participated in live-fire drills at a base in Tainan. These drills utilized FPV drones equipped with 3.5-inch high-explosive anti-armor rounds to strike decommissioned CM12 tanks and CM24 armored vehicles, simulating the low-cost, high-impact drone warfare seen in recent global conflicts.
