Taiwan Ministry of Environment launches LED lighting upgrade campaign

Taiwan’s Resource Circulation Administration, under the Ministry of Environment, has announced the ‘Lighting Brightness, Long Life, Waste Reduction New Life’ campaign. Running from September 9 to October 31, the initiative encourages households to replace old lighting with energy-efficient LED bulbs.

To promote the transition, the administration has partnered with 12 companies, including physical retailers like Carrefour and E-Mall, lighting brands such as Philips, and e-commerce platforms including momo, PChome, and Eastern Shopping. Participating vendors are offering discounts, lucky draws, and rewards to incentivize consumers.

According to official estimates, replacing 20 traditional energy-saving bulbs with 16W LED bulbs in a standard three-bedroom home can save approximately 2,000 TWD in annual electricity costs and reduce carbon emissions by 200 kg. The campaign also aims to reduce waste by 75% through proper recycling protocols. The administration reminds citizens not to dispose of old bulbs in general trash but to package them in cardboard for collection by retailers or recycling vehicles to ensure materials like glass, iron, and aluminum can be reused.
