Taiwan Mobile launches first 5G AI smart geothermal power plants

Taiwan Mobile and Chia Tek Group's Jie Yuan Energy have established Taiwan's first smart geothermal power plant utilizing 5G and AI technologies. Located in the Jinshan geothermal area of New Taipei City, specifically at the Sihuangziping and Liuhuangziping plants, the project integrates 5G private networks, Edge AI, IoT sensors, and generative AI to optimize operations.

The implementation of the “6+2 innovative application” framework includes features such as autonomous inspection via robotic dogs, AI-driven energy optimization, and AIoT-controlled mist cooling. These technologies have reportedly increased inspection efficiency by over 20% and improved summer power generation efficiency by more than 5%.

Taiwan Mobile reported that its AI service platform, which serves as the ecosystem coordinator for this project, has already partnered with 14 companies and generated 35 million TWD in value. The modular AI architecture used in these geothermal plants is intended for future expansion into the semiconductor, petrochemical, and manufacturing sectors to support the increasing electricity demands of AI data centers and high-tech industries.
