Taiwan Parliament approves annual military drone funding
The Taiwanese Parliament has approved annual expenditures of approximately 40 billion Taiwan dollars for military drones, focusing on the procurement of reconnaissance and loitering munitions. While approving these annual funds, lawmakers rejected a controversial special budget of over 210 billion Taiwan dollars that was intended to run through 2031.

The government had previously argued that the acquisition of roughly 210,000 drones was urgent due to lessons learned from the conflict in Ukraine and increasing threats from China.
Opposition members criticized the original government proposal for lacking transparency and demanded stricter oversight. The Ministry of Defense expressed concern that the newly imposed annual spending caps could impede the buildup of effective drone capabilities. Prime Minister Cho Jung-tai stated that the government would review these measures regarding national security and defense.
