Taiwan passes Unmanned Vehicle Industry Act with 240 billion TWD plan

Taiwan's Legislative Yuan has passed the Unmanned Vehicle Industry Act, which outlines a plan to invest 240 billion TWD over six years, at a rate of 40 billion TWD annually, to advance the nation's unmanned vehicle and related industries.

Following the third reading, the Executive Yuan is expected to countersign the bill and propose the necessary budget. Kuomintang caucus leader Fu Kun-chi expressed hope that the initiative will establish a complete upstream, midstream, and downstream supply chain, potentially turning the industry into a “second protective mountain” for the nation, similar to the semiconductor industry.

Fu emphasized that the development of this sector is critical for Taiwan's future industrial layout. He noted that the legislation aims to remove development barriers while addressing national defense security and international cooperation requirements, including provisions concerning concerns raised by the United States. The establishment of a National Unmanned Vehicle Industry Development Strategic Special Committee is also part of the framework.
