Taiwan People's Party denounces food safety scandal ahead of Kaifong protest

People's Party legislative caucus chief Chen Qing‑long said the oil‑contamination scandal has persisted for 21 days, accusing the government of failing to provide truth, accountability and proper investigative mechanisms. He urged the establishment of a third‑party investigation team and criticized the Food and Drug Administration for releasing only a press release instead of a full report.

Chen also pointed out that existing food‑safety laws already empower the Executive Yuan to convene cross‑agency food‑safety meetings, so the problem lies in government inaction rather than legal gaps. He blamed the ruling party for delaying action and called for stronger enforcement.

Regarding the 725‑person Kaifong march, party leader Ko Wen‑je will not attend due to other commitments, while party chairman Huang Kuo‑chang confirmed he will be present. The party urged citizens concerned about food safety to join the protest and demand government responsibility.
