Taiwan proposes stricter penalties for micro-electric vehicle drug driving
Taiwan's Legislative Yuan Transportation Committee is reviewing proposed amendments to significantly increase penalties for driving micro-electric two-wheeled vehicles under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This follows a sharp rise in drug-driving incidents involving these vehicles, which increased from 71 to 580 cases between January and September this year.
The proposed changes aim to align micro-electric vehicle regulations with those for cars and motorcycles, including provisions for the seizure of vehicles and the confiscation of licenses for those who refuse testing. Additionally, the Ministry of Transportation plans to shorten the public notice period for uncollected impounded vehicles from three months to one month to improve management efficiency and reduce storage costs.
