Taiwan traffic expected to surge during Mid-Autumn holiday

Heavy traffic is expected across Taiwan during the four-day Mid-Autumn Festival and Teacher's Day holiday from September 25 to 28. The Taiwan Highway Bureau predicts significant congestion, particularly on the third and fourth days of the holiday as travelers head north.

Key congestion points include various sections of National Highways 1, 3, 5, and 10. National Highway 5 is expected to see heavy northbound traffic starting from 9:00 AM, potentially lasting until late at night. For those traveling north, officials recommend departing from southern regions before 9:00 AM and from central regions before 12:00 PM to avoid peak hours.

To manage the surge, authorities have implemented several measures, including high-occupancy vehicle restrictions on certain sections of National Highway 5, temporary closures of specific interchanges on National Highways 1 and 3, and the use of shoulder driving for large buses on the Suhua Highway. Travelers are advised to use navigation apps and monitor real-time traffic updates to plan alternative routes.
