Taiwan police probe AI‑deepfake video of president

Taiwan's Criminal Investigation Bureau confirmed it opened an inquiry after a citizen reported a viral online video titled “油不得你” that appeared to use AI‑generated deep‑fake technology to imitate the president’s voice. Police visited the creator’s home, questioned him about the video’s content, and clarified that they had not ordered the video taken down nor restricted his freedom of expression. The bureau stressed the investigation aims to verify the video’s authenticity, preserve evidence, and assess whether it could mislead the public.

Officials warned that such synthetic media could cause confusion among viewers and advised platforms to evaluate whether the material should be adjusted or removed, while affirming no coercive action was taken against the creator.
