Taiwan police warn of phishing scams using fake customer service

Police in Taiwan are warning the public about evolving phishing scams targeting unsuspecting consumers through fake customer service interactions and fraudulent order notifications.

In one recent incident, a resident contacted the Tanaka Police Station after receiving an email for a luxury bag order totaling NT$16,737 that they never placed. When the individual attempted to contact the listed customer service to cancel the order, the scammers requested sensitive banking information and personal data under the guise of identity verification and processing a refund.

Authorities emphasize that legitimate businesses will never ask for bank account passwords, credit card verification codes, or OTPs to cancel an order. Citizens are advised to avoid clicking suspicious links and to use official channels like the 165 anti-fraud hotline to verify communications.
