AMD to increase chip supply in 2027 amid surging AI demand

AMD CEO Lisa Su has announced plans to substantially increase the company's chip supply in 2027 to meet the surging demand for artificial intelligence hardware. During a visit to Taiwan to meet with key manufacturing and supply chain partners, including Foxconn and TSMC, Su noted that while AMD has increased supply throughout 2026, demand for CPUs and GPUs continues to outpace current production capabilities.

To address these shortages, AMD is extending its supply chain planning horizon from the traditional one to two years to a more long-term window of three to five years. This shift aims to ensure that wafer production, advanced packaging, and memory supplies are synchronized. Su also confirmed that AMD intends to increase its previously announced $10 billion investment in Taiwan's semiconductor ecosystem, though the new total amount has not been disclosed.

Wall Street analysts remain bullish on the company's trajectory. Stifel Nicolaus and Mizuho Securities have raised their price targets for AMD to $700, citing robust server demand and the ongoing AI infrastructure build-out. Additionally, AMD recently expanded its technological capabilities through an $8.2 billion acquisition of AI startup World Labs.
