Taiwan Premier urges legislature to approve NT$607.6 billion supplementary budget

Taiwan's Premier Cho Jung-tai has urged the Legislative Yuan to support the government's supplementary budget proposal rather than becoming an obstacle to national competitiveness. The Executive Yuan has proposed a supplementary budget of NT$607.6 billion for the 115th fiscal year.

Key components of the budget include NT$233.83 billion for CPC Corporation, NT$187.48 billion for stability measures related to Middle East conflicts, and NT$145.69 billion for defense capabilities and military personnel benefits. Additionally, the plan includes NT$21.5 billion for social welfare increases and NT$10.7 billion for professional and managerial allowances for military, civil service, and teaching personnel.

The Executive Yuan addressed concerns regarding the legality of the proposal, stating it follows Article 79 of the Budget Act. The government aims to complete the third reading by the end of November to ensure that social welfare increases for approximately 3.8 million people—including elderly farmers and national pension recipients—do not lapse.
