Taiwan prepares for holiday travel surges in Kinmen and Suhua Highway

Taiwan is preparing for increased travel demand during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and Teachers' Day long weekend.

In Kinmen, local authorities have coordinated with the Civil Aeronautics Administration and airlines to add 10 extra flights, providing 928 additional seats to accommodate travelers returning home. Reservations for these extra flights will open on September 16 at 9:00 AM. To ensure efficient use of limited air resources, tickets for peak periods will be subject to specific usage restrictions and a tiered refund fee system.

On the Suhua Highway corridor, the Highway Bureau expects significant traffic surges. On September 25, southbound traffic is expected to peak in the morning, while northbound traffic is projected to peak on September 27. To manage congestion, authorities will implement measures such as prioritizing large buses and allowing certain vehicles to use emergency shoulders on specific sections of the highway during peak hours. Large trucks over 21 tons may face entry restrictions during designated periods.
