Taiwan’s president, Lai Ching‑te, said the island will not tolerate any infiltration or “red terror” stemming from China’s new ethnic‑unity legislation. Speaking at the Ketagalan Forum on Indo‑Pacific security, Lai condemned the law, warning that its extraterritorial provisions could expose Taiwanese individuals and organisations to legal risk abroad. He called on the international community to oppose the measure and pledged to tighten counter‑intelligence, bolster national‑security legislation and protect Taiwan’s democratic institutions. The remarks come amid rising cross‑strait tensions and a broader push by Taipei to safeguard its sovereignty against Beijing’s political and cyber‑influence campaigns.
