Taiwan real estate: Space vs. location trade-off for 15M TWD budget

A comparison of real estate options in Taiwan reveals a significant trade-off between living space and location for buyers with a budget of 15 million TWD. Data from the Yung Ching Real Estate Group shows that in New Taipei City, the gap between the average size of pre-sale homes and existing homes varies by district. Xizhi District shows the largest discrepancy, with pre-sale homes being 10.3 pings smaller on average than existing homes. Linkou District follows with an 8.5 ping difference.

In contrast, districts like Tamsui show no difference in average size between pre-sale and existing homes, as both average 33.1 pings. The data highlights that buyers must choose between central locations with mature amenities and smaller living spaces, or outlying areas that offer more room at the cost of longer commutes.

This dilemma is exemplified by the choice between purchasing a small, 10-ping new apartment in Taipei's Xinyi District or a larger two-bedroom home in the outskirts of New Taipei City. Real estate experts note that while urban micro-apartments benefit from high demand and proximity to transit, they offer extremely limited living area, whereas outlying properties allow buyers to “exchange time for space.”
