Taiwan recalls contaminated salad oil and offers two consumer refund routes

A batch of soybean salad oil produced by 中聯油脂 was found to contain the carcinogen benzopyrene (BaP) above legal limits, prompting a nationwide food‑safety response. Taiwan’s Executive Yuan Consumer Protection Office announced an expanded recall for products manufactured between April and June 2024 and outlined two refund mechanisms.

Consumers can return the oil directly to the three listed suppliers—Tai Shan Enterprise, Fu Shou Industrial and Fu Mao Oil—using dedicated hotlines (0800‑079080, 0800‑236699, 0800‑888255) and providing any purchase proof such as receipts, invoices or card records, or even the used oil container. The second option allows returns at participating supermarkets and convenience stores (e.g., Da‑Xuan‑Lian, Quan‑Lian, Mei‑Lian‑She, etc.) by presenting the original receipt or electronic purchase record.

Separately, 7‑Eleven stores, supplied by Uni‑President Food, set up a digital refund process for affected fresh‑food items sold between 13‑23 April 2024. Eligible shoppers with an OPENPOINT account receive refunds automatically deposited into the app’s “zero‑wallet” starting 14 July, while non‑members must bring proof of purchase to a store. The refund window runs until 31 August, and a consumer helpline (1950) is available for disputes.
