Taiwan relief efforts support flood-stricken Pingtung and Hualien communities
Buddhist organizations in Taiwan have launched relief efforts in Pingtung following heavy rainfall and flooding caused by a low-pressure system and southwest monsoon. The Taiwan Buddhist Association, the Chinese Bhikkhuni Association, and the Pingtung County Buddhist Association mobilized over 100 volunteers to prepare 1,300 lunch boxes, 1,300 packs of cookies, and 100 boxes of mineral water for affected residents in areas such as Jiadong and Taiwu.
To improve future response capabilities, these groups are planning to purchase rescue equipment, including power boats and jet skis, to navigate flooded areas where standard vehicles cannot travel.
In Hualien, Mustard Seed International and the PX Mart Charity Foundation held a ceremony to mark the progress of recovery in Guangfu Township nearly one year after devastating floods caused by the Mataian River dam breach. The partnership has provided significant aid, including 6.23 million TWD in donations over five years, to support vulnerable families and community reconstruction through local service centers and rebuilding hubs.
