Taiwan reports Chinese aircraft and naval sorties near its territory
On July 26, 2026, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence said it detected four People's Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft, seven People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels and three official ships operating around the island up to 06:00 UTC+8. The ministry posted on X: "4 sorties of PLA aircraft, 7 PLAN vessels and 3 official ships operating around Taiwan detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. #ROCArmedForces have monitored the situation and responded."
The same week saw heightened activity: on Saturday Taiwan recorded 29 PLA aircraft sorties, of which 17 crossed the median line into its ADIZ, together with six PLAN vessels and five official ships; on Friday eight aircraft sorties, six vessels and four ships were observed. Chinese officials reiterated their claim over Taiwan and urged the United States to handle related issues with prudence.
Taiwan maintains that it monitors all incursions and responds as required, underscoring the ongoing security tension across the Taiwan Strait.
