Taiwan reports Chinese military activity following US-China summit
Taiwan has reported increased military activity from China, including the detection of 5 military aircraft and 11 vessels near its territory within a 24-hour period. The Taiwan Ministry of National Defense noted that one People's Liberation Army aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait. Since the start of the month, Taiwan has recorded 215 sightings of Chinese aircraft and 269 sightings of ships.
These developments follow a three-day summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Following the summit, Taiwanese Deputy Foreign Minister François Wu stated that the United States made no concessions to China regarding Taiwan. Wu emphasized that maintaining US arms sales to Taiwan and protecting Taiwan's semiconductor industry are vital to US national interests. During the summit, Xi Jinping reportedly expressed hope that the US would maintain a 'correct position' by opposing Taiwanese independence.
