Taiwan Reports Eight Chinese Aircraft Sorties and Seven Navy Vessels Near Island

On 29 July 2026 Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence said its ROC Armed Forces tracked eight People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft sorties, seven People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels and one official ship operating around the island. Six of the eight aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s northern and eastern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).

The same week saw similar activity. The previous Monday, Taiwan recorded three PLA aircraft sorties, four official ships and seven PLAN vessels, with one sortie crossing the median line into the southwestern ADIZ. On Sunday, four aircraft sorties, three official ships and seven PLAN vessels were observed in the island’s vicinity.

These incursions occur against the backdrop of China’s longstanding claim that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, a claim Taiwan rejects while maintaining its own government, military and economy.
