Taiwan reports surge in Chinese naval vessels and aircraft near its waters

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence said it detected a sortie of one People’s Liberation Army Air Force aircraft and seven naval vessels operating around its territorial waters on 27 June 2026. The armed forces monitored the activity and responded.

On 28 June 2026 the ministry reported six Chinese naval vessels near Taiwan, with no aircraft detected that day. The ministry again said the forces were monitoring the situation and had responded. Both reports came as Taiwan continued sea‑trial tests of its first domestically built submarine.
