Taiwan experiences several accidents, including fire rescue and road incidents
A residential fire broke out in the early hours at a three‑story house in Tainan’s Liouying district. Firefighters used a ladder to rescue a family of four from the upper floors; all escaped unharmed and no injuries were reported.
In Hualien, a construction accident occurred when a road‑roller reversed and ran over a worker at a parking‑lot site, causing severe leg injuries. The victim was declared dead at the hospital despite emergency treatment.
A cargo truck traveling on Min‑yi Road in New Taipei’s Wugu district lost a large iron block that struck a nearby power pole, bringing down the pole and blocking the entire road. Police closed the road and redirected traffic; no people were injured.
Later the same day in Hualien, a small truck allegedly ran a red light and collided with a motorcyclist. The rider suffered a fractured right hand and minor bruises, while both drivers tested negative for alcohol. Police are investigating the crash and have urged road users to obey traffic signals.
