Taiwan semiconductor industry relies on democracy and rule of law, says President Lai

Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te stated at the SEMICON trade show in Taipei that the nation’s semiconductor success is rooted in democracy and the rule of law. He emphasized that Taiwan has developed a complete, efficient semiconductor cluster that serves as a reliable partner for the global market, particularly regarding the chips required for AI computing power.

As the home of TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, Taiwan remains a central node in the global technology supply chain. While facing pressure from the United States to diversify the global concentration of chip manufacturing, Taiwanese companies are increasing investments abroad, including TSMC’s significant factory developments in Arizona.

The relationship between efficiency and innovation remains a critical factor for the industry. While efficiency focuses on refining existing processes and maximizing output, innovation requires the space to experiment with unproven ideas. Taiwan’s model has successfully utilized efficient manufacturing to establish its position as a global leader in advanced chip production.
