Taiwan stock market historical data shows gains after Mid-Autumn Festival
Historical data from the past 10 years suggests a positive trend for the Taiwan stock market following the Mid-Autumn Festival. According to Nomura Asset Management, investors entering the market one trading day before the holiday have seen average returns of 5.1% over 60 trading days and 8.8% over 120 trading days for the weighted index.
The technology sector has shown even stronger performance. The electronic index saw average returns of 6.4% and 11.5% for the 60 and 120-day periods, respectively. Notably, the Taiwan Innovative Technology 50 Index outperformed both the broader market and the electronic index, yielding average returns of 8.1% over 60 days and 15.0% over 120 days.
Market analysts attribute this growth potential to continuous investment in AI infrastructure by global cloud service providers. The mass production of the next-generation AI computing platform, Vera Rubin, is expected to drive demand across the supply chain, including servers, advanced processes, packaging, high-speed transmission, PCBs, power, and cooling systems. Furthermore, the period from the fourth quarter to the beginning of the following year is traditionally a peak season for new product launches and inventory stocking in the tech industry.
