Taiwan stock market rises over 800 points as electronics sector surges
The Taiwan stock market experienced significant growth this week, with the weighted index rising over 800 points to close at 48,024.60. The total market capitalization of listed companies reached NT$157.76 trillion, an increase of approximately 1.79% from the previous week.
Growth was primarily driven by the electronics sector. Electronic components saw the strongest performance with an 8.36% weekly increase, while the semiconductor sector dominated trading volume, accounting for 40.71% of the total turnover. Combined, the semiconductor, electronic components, and optoelectronics sectors represent over 75% of the total trading value.
Market interest is also being fueled by reports of potential price increases for TSMC's wafer foundry services in 2027. This has increased attention on AI-related supply chains, including servers, PCBs, thermal management, and optical communications. Investment analysts suggest that while TSMC remains a central figure, the AI boom is spreading across various electronic sub-sectors.
