Taiwan Tightens Pork Import Restrictions After Finland ASF Outbreak

Finland's African swine fever (ASF) outbreak has expanded, leading Taiwan's authorities to ban the import of live pigs and pork products from Finland starting 31 July. Violators face a first‑offense fine of up to NT$1 million, with repeat offences subject to higher fines, up to NT$3 million, and possible imprisonment of up to seven years.

Kaohsiung Customs has stepped up border inspections, applying 100 % instrument scanning and employing detection dogs on all incoming parcels. The agency urges the public not to bring pork items by travel, mail or courier and directs queries to the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency’s ASF information portal.
