TSMC reports record Q3 profit amid surging AI demand

TSMC has reported record-breaking third-quarter results, driven by surging demand for artificial intelligence semiconductors. The company achieved a net profit of NT$763.06 billion, a 68.7% increase year-on-year, and revenue of $46.7 billion, up 41% year-on-year. High-performance computing (HPC) remains the primary growth driver, accounting for 68% of total revenue. While advanced nodes like 3nm and 2nm are expanding their revenue share, gross margins saw a slight decline to 66.4% due to the initial production ramp of the 2nm process.

To support the expanding AI supply chain, Taiwan is planning to establish multiple industrial parks in the United States, with the first site proposed for Texas. These complexes, estimated to cost between $2 billion and $4 billion each, aim to bring Taiwanese suppliers closer to major customers like TSMC and Foxconn.

Simultaneously, Taiwan is tightening export controls on advanced AI chips and servers to China. This move, aligned with U.S. policy, aims to protect national security and technological interests by classifying unauthorized shipments as criminal offenses.
