Taiwan to increase minimum wage to 30,900 TWD monthly

Taiwan's Minimum Wage Deliberation Committee has resolved to increase the minimum wage for the upcoming year. The monthly wage will rise from 29,500 TWD to 30,900 TWD, while the hourly rate will increase from 196 TWD to 205 TWD.

Premier Cho Jung-tai stated that this adjustment represents the largest monthly increase since 2016. The move is expected to benefit approximately 2.61 million workers, with domestic workers accounting for roughly 84% of that figure. The Ministry of Labor noted that the service sector will comprise 65% of the beneficiaries, followed by the industrial sector at 34%.

The decision comes amid projections of an 11.05% GDP growth rate for Taiwan in 2026. While celebrating the wage hike, the government acknowledged the challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which constitute over 98% of the nation's businesses, and pledged continued support programs to help these entities care for grassroots employees.
