Taiwan to launch 431 e-cigarette recycling points

Taiwan's Health Promotion Administration will launch 431 e-cigarette recycling points and dedicated collection bins across the country starting September 8. This initiative allows citizens to anonymously dispose of electronic cigarettes without providing personal information.

The move precedes proposed amendments to the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act, which aim to include the possession of e-cigarettes under prohibited activities. Once the law is enacted and a one-month grace period has passed, individuals found in possession of e-cigarettes could face fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$100,000, along with the confiscation of the items.

While the exact implementation date of the new law remains subject to legislative review, the administration is deploying these recycling sites early to encourage proactive disposal. Most collection points will be located at local health bureaus, health centers, and addiction prevention centers, with only seven locations situated at police stations in New Taipei City.
