Taiwan Vice President Hsiao Mei-ching to attend Pride Parade

Vice President Hsiao Mei-ching is scheduled to attend a press conference ahead of the 24th Taiwan Pride Parade in Taipei. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has announced its participation in the event under the theme “DPP holds you tight,” aiming to demonstrate support for gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights.

As the 2026 local elections approach, the DPP has issued guidelines for its party members and candidates participating in the parade. While participants may use party names and identify as candidates, they are strictly prohibited from engaging in electioneering, such as using campaign slogans, candidate numbers, or soliciting votes, in accordance with the parade organizers' regulations.

Notable figures including host Kevin Tsai and entertainer Amber An are expected to be absent from this year's event. Tsai previously expressed dissatisfaction regarding police actions at a gay bar in Ximending, while An is currently working in Hong Kong. The parade features participation from various political camps, including representatives from both the blue and green political blocs.
