Taiwan weather: Monsoon affects north while Typhoon Krathon develops

Taiwan is experiencing weather influenced by the Northeast Monsoon, bringing cooler temperatures and rain to the northern and eastern regions. Meanwhile, central and southern areas remain hot, with daytime temperatures reaching between 32°C and 33°C.

Forecasts indicate that the monsoon will weaken by Thursday and Friday, leading to more stable conditions with scattered showers in the Greater Taipei area, the eastern half of the island, and the Hengchun Peninsula. By the weekend, the environment is expected to become drier, with rain limited to the northern coast of Keelung, the northeast, and some mountainous areas.

Additionally, tropical depression TD28 is expected to strengthen into Typhoon Krathon, the 21st typhoon of the year, located east-northeast of Guam. While current projections suggest the typhoon will likely move toward Japan without directly impacting Taiwan, its exact path remains uncertain. If the typhoon turns north near Okinawa, its outer circulation could bring cooler northern winds to Taiwan; otherwise, warm easterly winds may continue to keep temperatures high.
