Taiwan weather: Northeast monsoon brings rain as tropical depression nears typhoon status

Taiwan is currently experiencing the influence of a northeast monsoon, bringing increased moisture and localized showers to northern areas, the eastern part of the island, and the Hengchun Peninsula. While northern temperatures have cooled slightly, central and southern regions remain hot, with daily temperature fluctuations reaching approximately 10 degrees Celsius.

Regarding tropical systems, tropical depression TD28, located near Guam, is expected to potentially develop into Typhoon ‘Dujuan’ as early as September 16. Meteorological experts indicate that the system is moving toward the waters south of Japan. Current projections suggest a low probability of direct impact on Taiwan, as the system is expected to follow a path toward the Ryukyu Islands and eventually toward Japan between September 21 and 23.

Weather conditions are expected to improve by Thursday and Friday as the monsoon weakens and moisture decreases, leading to mostly cloudy to sunny skies across the island and a slight rise in temperatures in the north and east.
