East Asia weather: Monsoon showers in Taiwan and cooling in northern China
Weather patterns across East Asia are shifting due to monsoon activity and incoming cold air masses. In Taiwan, the northeast monsoon is influencing local conditions, bringing localized showers to the windward areas including the northern coast, Yilan, and the Hengchun Peninsula. Temperatures in central and southern Taiwan are expected to remain high, with some inland areas potentially reaching 36°C. Residents are advised to watch for significant diurnal temperature variations.
In mainland China, a new cold air mass is expected to bring increased rainfall and a noticeable temperature drop to northern regions, including North China and Northeast China, starting shortly. While southern regions like Jiangnan and South China will continue to experience warmth with temperatures exceeding 30°C, northern areas may see temperature decreases of 4°C to 12°C.
Air quality in certain parts of Taiwan has been noted as moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups due to low wind speeds in the south, leading to pollutant accumulation.
