Taiwan welcomes first 35 Indonesian technical workers for hospitality sector

The first group of 35 Indonesian technical workers arrived in Taiwan on September 14, marking the initial implementation of the ‘Cross-Border Technical Manpower Improvement Program’. This initiative aims to address labor shortages in the hospitality and port industries.

These workers, who will be employed by Regent Taipei, previously completed at least one year of internship and skill training at the hotel. This prior experience ensures they are familiar with Taiwan’s workplace culture and can immediately assist with housekeeping, reservations, and guest reception. The workers also possess proficiency in Mandarin or English.

Under the Ministry of Labor’s regulations, hospitality businesses can apply for foreign technical manpower at a 1:1 ratio if they increase the wages of their existing full-time local entry-level employees by at least NT$2,000. As of late August, over 60 hospitality businesses have applied for this program, with a cumulative demand exceeding 600 people.
