Taiwan woman develops kidney dysfunction from extreme red meat diet

A 46-year-old woman in Taiwan has been diagnosed with early-stage kidney dysfunction following an extreme diet focused exclusively on red meat. Seeking to increase muscle and lose fat, the patient, identified as Ms. Lin, consumed high amounts of red meat while eliminating all other food groups.

Upon visiting the hospital due to unexpected weight gain, medical tests revealed elevated blood lipid levels and uric acid, alongside impaired renal filtration functions. Dr. Hsiao Chieh-chien of Guotai Hospital noted that while the damage is currently mild and does not yet require invasive medical intervention, continued adherence to such an unbalanced diet would likely lead to severe kidney failure.
